Dr. Janapati Yellaiah, a distinguished alumnus of Advanced Centre of Research in High Energy Materials, (ACRHEM), School of Physics, University of Hyderabad (UoH), has reached a significant career milestone by joining the Department of Physics at Visva-Bharati University, West Bengal, as an Assistant Professor.

Dr. Yellaiah’s academic journey at UoH is marked by rigorous research in the field of laser physics. He completed his PhD (2015-2022) at ACRHEM under the expert supervision of Prof. P. Prem Kiran. His doctoral thesis, titled “Laser-induced underwater acoustic signals and their applications,” explored the complex dynamics of laser-matter interactions and their practical utilities in underwater environments.
Reflecting on his time at the university, Dr. Janapati Yellaiah credits the vibrant research ecosystem of UoH for his growth. Following his PhD, he continued to contribute to the university’s research output as a Project Scientist under the guidance of Prof. Anil Kumar Chaudhary at ACRHEM, where he further refined his expertise in advanced spectroscopic and laser-based techniques.

Before his transition to Visva-Bharati, Dr. Yellaiah gained significant teaching experience serving as a faculty member (Temporary) in the Department of Physics at NIT Raipur from August 2024 to December 18, 2025.
“I am deeply indebted to the University of Hyderabad for providing a world-class environment for research,” said Dr. Yellaiah. “I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to my supervisor, Prof. P. Prem Kiran, and my doctoral committee members, Prof. G. Manoj Kumar and Prof. Nirmal K. Viswanathan, for their critical insights and constant support.”

He also extended his gratitude to Prof. Soma Venugopal Rao and the entire faculty of the School of Physics for their enormous support and encouragement during his coursework and tenure at the centre.
As he transitions to his new role at Visva-Bharati a Central University of national importance founded by Rabindranath Tagore, Dr. Yellaiah aims to establish a research program focused on Photoacoustics, Laser-induced filamentation, and plasma shockwaves in different media.
The UoH community congratulates Dr. Janapati Yellaiah on this prestigious appointment and wishes him continued success in his academic and research endeavors.
