John P.A. Ioannidis of Stanford University has recently published an update of his study of the global top 2% of most widely cited researchers in different disciplines. This ranking, considered one the most prestigious worldwide, is based on standardized information on citations, h-index, co-authorship adjusted hm-index, citations to papers in different authorship positions, and a composite indicator (c-score). The August 2024 data update includes more than 217000 researchers categorized under 22 scientific fields and 174 subfields.

The data shows that 29 retired and present faculty members/associates from the University of Hyderabad are among the top 2% of most-cited researchers worldwide. The distribution of our top researchers is as follows: 10 in Chemistry, 7 in Life Sciences, 3 each in Computer and Information Sciences and High Energy Materials, 2 each in Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences and Physics, one in Literary/Communication and Textual Studies, and one in Mathematics and Statistics.

In a unique distinction, Prof Pramod K Nayar is the only Indian university researcher in the field of Literary Studies in the global top 2%, and has now moved into the global top 100 in Literary Studies.

Reacting to this achievement Prof. B J Rao, Vice Chancellor, UoH said, “With this, the fifth iteration of the Stanford study in which UoH has done expectedly well, we cement our place in global research indexes. It makes us proud to see 29 of our retired and present faculty in the global top 2% covering such a wide range of areas. This only reiterates the UoH’s status as a research university.”

The University continues its track record of excellent achievements by the faculty members, where its faculty has won several prestigious awards and honours, bagged coveted prizes, secured competitive grants, and filed national and international patents. The University is also known for its publication record, wherein the faculty members continually publish their research findings in refereed journals of international repute.
