Mr. Jerome Xavier G, a PhD Scholar at the Department of Plant Sciences, University of Hyderabad, has been selected for the India-Japan Circulation of Talented Youths in Science Programme (LOTUS Japan Exchange Program), FY 2025. This prestigious program, supported by the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), aims to foster high-quality scientific collaboration and promote researcher mobility between India and Japan.

Mr. Jerome Xavier G
Under the guidance of Prof. S. Rajagopal, Mr. Jerome Xavier will undertake a one-year research project at Kyoto University, Japan, in Prof. Takashi Yamano’s lab. The project, titled “Engineering of autophagy genes (ATG4 and ATG12) and their role in lipid biosynthesis in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii,” seeks to understand the relationship between autophagy and photosynthesis in Chlamydomonas to develop a high lipid profile strain for sustainable biofuel.
Prof. S. Rajagopal will also visit the Japanese lab for a month as part of the program. This achievement highlights the University of Hyderabad’s commitment to academic excellence and international research collaboration, further solidifying its global research presence.
