In a proud moment for the University of Hyderabad (UoH), Prof. Chinna Mallaiah Lakkineni from the School of Economics has been appointed as the Vice Chancellor of Dravidian University, Kuppam, effective March 13, 2026.
Popularly known in academic circles as Prof. L. C. Mallaiah, his professional journey is deeply intertwined with UoH. Beyond his tenure as a dedicated faculty member, he is a distinguished alumnus of the university. Prof. Mallaiah completed his comprehensive higher education journey right here on the UoH campus, earning his MA, MBA, MPhil, and PhD degrees before eventually joining the faculty.

He brings to his new leadership role over 20 years of extensive teaching and research experience in Economics. Prior to his tenure at UoH, Prof. Mallaiah served as a Professor at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Lucknow. His distinguished academic career also includes faculty positions at the Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar National Institute of Social Sciences (BANISS) in Mhow, the Central University of Karnataka, and the Government College for Women in Begumpet, Hyderabad.
A prominent and widely respected scholar, his core areas of specialization encompass Development Economics, Industrial Economics, Agricultural Economics, the Economics of Marginalized Communities, Gender Economics, and Ambedkar Economics.
His elevation to the position of Vice Chancellor highlights his academic rigor, rich administrative experience, and long-standing commitment to higher education.
