Sreenath Punnassery takes Research to France and Spain

From the Atlantic port city of Brest to the lecture halls of Granada, this summer took Sreenath Punnassery, PhD scholar in Translation Studies at the Centre for Applied Linguistics and Translation Studies (CALTS), School of Humanities, University of Hyderabad across two major sites of European translation scholarship.

Working under the guidance of Dr. Sriparna Das, Sreenath presented “Cloud Capitalism and Planetary Proletarianization: AI Translation’s Labour Environment Rift” at the International Colloquium T&R-9, “Theory and Realities in Translation and Technical Writing: Translation and Writing , Shores and Beacons / Translation at Sea,” at the Université de Bretagne-Occidentale, Brest, on 4–5 June 2026. The paper turns a critical lens on the hidden human and ecological costs underwriting AI-driven translation, the cloud infrastructures, invisible labour and environmental toll behind the seamless output

He then joined the Doctoral and Teacher-Training Translation Studies Summer School (DOTTSS) at the University of Granada, Spain (15–26 June 2026), jointly organised by the University of Ljubljana, the University of Turku, Tampere University, Boğaziçi University and the University of Granada, on the theme “The Political Stakes of Translation,   and Interdisciplinarity in Times of Global Crisis.”

At the summer school’s student conference, Sreenath presented “Translation and Multilingualism in the Linguistic Landscapes of Hyderabad: A Comparative Study,” drawn directly from his doctoral research — carrying the signboards, scripts and everyday multilingualism of Hyderabad into a conversation shaped by scholars from five countries.
