Delegation from University of Tabriz Visits University of Hyderabad to Explore Academic and Research Collaboration

Prof. Asghar Asgari, Vice Chancellor for Research and Technology and Professor of Physics at the University of Tabriz, and Prof. Dr. Hossein Navid, representative of the International Society of Precision Agriculture (ISPA) in Iran, met with the Prof. J Anuradha, Vice Chancellor i/C of the University of Hyderabad (UoH) and leadership from the Office for International Affairs including Prof. Aparna Rayaprol and Dr. B R Shamanna during his official visit to Hyderabad. Prof. Asgari was in the city attending an Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) training program hosted at the International Crops Research Institute for the Semi-Arid Tropics (ICRISAT).

During the high-level meeting, representatives from both institutions explored avenues for bilateral cooperation across basic sciences, engineering, and agricultural technology.

The discussions focused on several prospective areas of partnership:

Joint Research Projects: Aligning the University of Tabriz’s specialized research hubs in physics, photonics, and renewable energy with UoH’s Schools of Physics, Chemistry, Life Sciences, and Engineering Sciences.

Smart & Precision Agriculture: Capitalizing on the University of Tabriz’s Faculty of Agriculture—represented alongside Prof. Dr. Hossein Navid, representative of the International Society of Precision Agriculture (ISPA) in Iran—to collaborate on Smart Agriculture (SA) and Precision Agriculture (PA) initiatives with UoH research groups.

Academic Exchange Programs: Establishing faculty and researcher exchange opportunities, guest lecture series, and reciprocal short-term visits.

Doctoral Co-Supervision: Developing frameworks for joint Ph.D. supervision and student mobility programs between the two universities.

University of Tabriz is 79 years old with 18 faculties, 35 specialised research centres and 4 centres of excellence with 24,000 students on rolls and 800 plus faculty. 3000 of the students are international from neighbours and surrounding countries and they stand around 600-650 in QS world university rankings.

The leadership of both institutions expressed strong optimism regarding the potential for collaborative research and agreed to initiate formal steps toward establishing an institutional agreement through the UoH Office for International Affairs.
