In accordance with UGC guidelines, the Office of the Dean of Students’ Welfare organised a Student Induction Programme on Thursday, 20 August 2026, for newly admitted students in the Integrated Master’s, PG programmes, for the 2026-27 academic year. The event was held in the DST auditorium at the University of Hyderabad.

As part of the programme, a short film promoting anti-ragging awareness was screened for the students at the outset. The proceedings began with a musical performance organized by the Campus Cultural Secretary, Dr. Aranya Kumar, followed by the lighting of the lamp and an invocation song.

Prof. G. Padmaja, Dean of Students’ Welfare, warmly welcomed the students and outlined the essential functions of the Dean of Students’ Welfare (DSW) office. She encouraged the students to actively seek support from the office whenever they face challenges or have questions, emphasizing that the staff is dedicated to assisting them throughout their academic journey.

In her inaugural address, Prof. J. Anuradha, the Honourable Vice Chancellor I/c., addressed the students, extending her heartfelt congratulations on their admission to the University of Hyderabad. She emphasized on the wise usage of invaluable resources available to them throughout their time at the University.

Dr. Devesh Nigam, the Registrar, presented a comprehensive overview of the University’s administrative divisions.

Other distinguished statutory officers, including Prof. V. Srinivasa Rao, the Controller of Examinations I/c.; Sri B. Srinivas, the Finance Officer; Dr. K. Ramachandra Rao, the Deputy Chief Warden; and the faculty I/.c U.E., Prof. Jaiprakash Gautham, provided insights into the exceptional services offered by their respective departments within the University.

Adding vibrancy to the programme, students presented a cultural programme with a dance themed “Unity in Diversity” bringing different ethnic groups together and a dance drama titled “Karthavya: The Duty We Share,” showcasing the need to nurture the natural resources.

In the second session, “Academics and Life at UoH,” the Deans from twelve schools shared valuable insights regarding the course structure, available opportunities, and diverse pathways within the students’ chosen fields at the University. They highlighted the importance of academic engagement, key aspects of university life, and effective strategies for a successful experience. Furthermore, students were informed about essential dos and don’ts to observe throughout their time on campus.

The S.N. School students gave a wonderful performance in the ballet titled “Alambana: The Life in University,” under the guidance of Prof. Aruna Bhikshu.

A special session on substance-abuse awareness was conducted by Shri Krishna Murthy, Addl. SP, EAGLE Force and Sri P. Srinivas Rao, Inspector, Telangana EAGLE Force, who explained the dangers of drug abuse and provisions of the NDPS Act. A live demonstration by the sniffer-dog squad further strengthened the awareness message.

The final session, entitled “Know Your University,” featured various administrative officers and unit heads who detailed the range of services available at the institution. They discussed services such as the Fellowship & Scholarship Section, Primary Health Centre, Counselling Unit, Sports Facilities, Anti-Discrimination services, the ICC, the IGM Library, ECDAP, PGAB, CNF, and Medical Insurance.

During the “Know Your University” session, Dr Siddhartha Anandesi, Assistant Director, Department of Physical Education and Sports, presented a video showcasing the impressive campus sports facilities for students. The video was inspiring, effectively highlighting the university’s diverse array of sports amenities.

The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Aliba Ao, the Deputy Dean of Students’ Welfare. He acknowledged the contributions and efforts of everyone involved in executing the student induction programme. The Dean of Students’ Welfare (DSW) expressed appreciation for all participants, particularly highlighting the Deputy DSWs and the office staff, who worked tirelessly throughout the week to ensure the event’s success on 20 August 2026.  Refreshments were provided to all participants at the end of the programme.
