The Department of Political Science, School of Social Sciences, University of Hyderabad (UoH) conducted an Orientation programme for the newly admitted MA and PhD students, which was held in the Seminar Hall of the Department, on September 11, 2026. The event proved highly engaging, fostering meaningful interaction between students and faculty members. The invited guests at the programme also included library staff and the University’s senior Psychological Counsellor, who shared their expertise and highlighted the support services available on campus.
Faculty members, along with Mentoring Committee members, interacted with first-year MA and PhD students. Prof. K.Y. Ratnam, the Head of the Department (HoD), welcomed the students, while Dr S. Shaji gave a presentation introducing the campus, the department, and the Master’s programme. Prof. Manjari Katju released the Freshers’ Guidebook (prepared by the Social Media team). Prof. K.K. Kailash, Prof. Biju B.L., Dr. Anju Helen Bara, Dr. Anagha Ingole and Dr. Bhim Subba interacted with the freshers. After the formal introduction by the students, a special presentation was given by the team from the IGM Library, led by the Librarian (i/c) Dr. O. Sivasankar Prasad. The presentation, which was quite informative, provided details on various tools and practices followed by the library. Further, the library representative elaborated on the functioning of the university library and guided students on utilising its resources effectively. Special emphasis was placed on the benefits of accessing journals, e-resources, and the online library portal. The students were also introduced to useful tools, especially Turnitin, that can help enhance their academic writing and research.
Dr Subhash M, a senior Psychological Counsellor from Health Centre, addressed the students and emphasised the importance of mental well-being in navigating the academic environment on campus. He added that the psychological division is well-equipped and ready to extend psychological counselling services to the university’s stakeholders, especially students. The session was well appreciated by all.
