The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been ranked fifth best among the Universities and eleventh among all institutions in the country by the National Institutional Ranking Framework of MHRD for the year 2018. It was declared the Best Central University for the year 2015 and given the Visitor’s Award by the then Hon’ble President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee. Very recently the University has also been granted Grade I Autonomy by the University Grants Commission.
UoH also retains its position as one of the major Universities in India in the area of higher education, achieving honours and attaining standards that set a benchmark. The ranking surveys by – India Today, The Week, Careers360 (Outlook group), QS World Rankings, US News and Reports, URAP (University Ranking by Academic Performance)-(Middle East), U-Multirank (Germany), Nature Index, to name a few have given UoH a high ranking in India with specific references to academics, research, publications, patents, student achievements, placements and outreach. The University has built up a reputation for providing high quality academic training and has been recognized through a number of awards such as accrediting by ‘NAAC’ – a grading of A with CGPA of 3.72 out of 4.00, ‘a University with Potential for Excellence’ by the University Grants Commission of India and PURSE given by the Prime Minister of India, International measures of research excellence also show the preeminence of UoH.
The University has seen considerable growth in the past few years, with the introduction of new course of study, new disciplines, and new initiatives. With the range of discipline represented and the quality of the faculty and students of UoH, the University – which is among the finest in the Country – is poised to make its mark internationally as well. The University aims to enhance the quality of education and research to produce the best students who will be model citizens of our country and in the process contribute to the world’s knowledge economy as well.
The University has bid for the status of Institution of Eminence (IoE), an initiative of the GoI’s MHRD. The University is among the 20 shortlisted institutions for the final ten IoEs in the country. On April 2, 2018 in New Delhi, the UoH made a presentation to the Empowered Committee constituted for selecting the IoEs. Our constant effort will be to improve the standard of the education offered.
UoH is the favourite destination for students wanting to pursue higher education in the country. This has been again proved by the whopping number of applications received for admissions to the various courses for the year 2016-17 and 2017-18.
UoH received 43,837 applications in 2016-17 followed by a record number of 58,200 applications in 2017-18.
For the year 2018-19 the university invites online application forms for its entrance examinations and admissions to various courses from 5th April, 2018 to 5th May, 2018. The entrance exams shall be held at 38 centres across the country during 1st to 5th of June, 2018. However, university may not conduct its entrance exam at those centres where the number of applications received is less than 300.
There are 1945 seats being offered for admissions to 117 courses. This includes 15 Integrated courses, 42 PG courses, 13 M.Phil, 6 M.Tech and 41 Ph.D. programmes.
