The University of Hyderabad (UoH) celebrated the Bhartiya Bhasha Diwas (December 11) on the occasion of birth anniversary of CHINNASWAMI SUBRAMANIA BHARATI. Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.J. Rao as chief guest, Prof A Manjulata, former Vice-Chancellor of Pottisriramlu Telugu University & Prof K Purushottam, as Guest of Honor, Prof. V Krishna, Dean school of Humanities were present on the occasion.
In the welcome address, Prof V Krishna, who was also the Coordinator of the event, articulated the context of celebrating the Indian languages day and encouraged the students to follow and subscribe to the legacy of Subhramania Bharati. Following that, Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.J. Rao described the multifaceted, multilingual personality of Bharati and the inspiration that youth must take from his vision of patriotism. Prof A Manjulata spoke on the richness of ancient Indian languages and fixated on scientific research and possibilities of professional jobs and opportunities in native languages. Speaking at the end Prof K Purushottam iterated the significance of language in preserving and disseminating culture and knowledge.
Following the event, the Heads of the Departments of the School of Humanities were felicitated. Various competitions were organized at the University and department level from November 30 to December 9 such as handwritten poster competitions, salutations of India, poetry recitation and Multilanguage skills. Winners were given prizes and a token of appreciation.
