R. Vennela, Ph.D Research Scholar, Centre for English Language Studies, School of Humanities, University of Hyderabad (UoH) visited the University of Warwick, United Kingdom from September 11, 2016 to September 22, 2017 on a Commonwealth Split-site PhD Scholarship. During her scholarship period, she worked on the historiography of bilingual colonial education in 19th century India.

Vennala says, “This year has been a great learning experience in terms of working with academics, students and friends from other parts of the world”. She adds “working with a supervisor from another academic culture also enriched my understanding of collaborative learning”.

She presented papers related to Sociolinguistics and Applied Linguistics at Cambridge, and at the University of Minho (Portugal), University of Amsterdam (Netherlands) and University of Vytautus Magnus (Lithuania). She also undertook some teaching at the Centre for Applied Linguistics, University of Warwick as part of her scholarship program.

Vennela has returned to UoH and will be completing her PhD thesis shortly. Prof. Sunita Mishra is her supervisor.
