The School of Humanities, successfully conducted the Online Certificate Courses in Foreign Languages (Phase I) from 10 March to 20 June 2026. The programme was launched with the objective of promoting multilingual competence, intercultural understanding, and global communication skills among the students of the University.
The initiative generated an overwhelming response from within the University community and outsiders. An initial 739 students (both University and Non-University participants) expressed their willingness to enrol in the programme through the online registration process, reflecting the growing demand for structured foreign language education. Based on the availability of faculty members, scheduling, and programme capacity, 325 students were admitted and successfully commenced the courses.
The Centre offered e-certificate courses in German, French, Spanish, Japanese, and Mandarin, providing learners with a strong foundation in listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, along with an introduction to the cultural contexts of the respective languages. The programme also aimed to improve students’ academic and professional prospects by equipping them with internationally relevant language skills.

The programme was coordinated by Dr. Girish D. Pawar, who oversaw the planning, implementation, academic scheduling, faculty coordination, student communication, assessments, and certification process. Technical support for the successful conduct of the programme, including online registration, learning management, digital communication, attendance management, result processing, and e-certificate generation, was provided by Mr. N. Harish, School of Humanities.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Prof. M. T. Ansari, Dean, School of Humanities, whose vision and administrative support were instrumental in launching this important academic initiative. The school places on record its sincere appreciation and gratitude to Prof. Prabhakar Rao, former Dean, School of Humanities, for his invaluable guidance, mentorship, and continuous coordination throughout the planning and successful conduct of the programme. His encouragement and academic leadership played a significant role in ensuring the smooth implementation of the Certificate Courses in Foreign Languages. The school also takes this opportunity to warmly welcome Prof. Sunita Mishra as the new Dean-in-Charge of the School of Humanities and looks forward to her leadership in further strengthening foreign language education and expanding the academic activities.
Throughout the programme, students actively participated in interactive sessions, language practice, assignments, and continuous assessments. The learner-centred approach adopted by the faculty enabled participants to acquire practical communicative competence while developing an appreciation of the cultures associated with each language.
Upon successful completion of the programme, eligible participants were awarded e-Certificates of successful completion. University students fulfilling the prescribed academic and attendance requirements were also awarded two extra academic credits, in accordance with the University’s approved guidelines.
The successful completion of the Certificate Courses in Foreign Languages (Phase I) marks a significant milestone in the academic initiatives of the School of Humanities. The enthusiastic response from students clearly demonstrates the growing importance of foreign language learning within the University community. The programme has laid a strong foundation for expanding foreign language education through intermediate and advanced-level courses, additional languages, and collaborations with international institutions.
