The Department of History, School of Social Sciences, University of Hyderabad (UoH), commemorated International Archaeology Day on October 19, 2024, with a series of engaging events that brought the fascinating world of archaeology to life for the University community. The celebration featured two main events, a guided archaeological site exploration in the morning and an archaeology-heritage quiz in the afternoon.

At the site

The day began with an enlightening field visit to the on-campus megalithic site, led by Prof. K.P. Rao, Honorary Professor of the Department of History. The walking tour was followed by an informative visit to the university museum, where participants observed and learned about various artifacts that tell the story of our rich archaeological heritage.

Marching towards the site

The celebration continued with an engaging archaeology quiz held at 2:30 PM in the Conference Hall, Department of History. The quiz tested participants’ knowledge of Indian archaeology, with a special focus on Indian archaeological and heritage sites and discoveries.

Winners of the quiz were awarded specially designed commemorative mugs and certificates, making the occasion both memorable and meaningful. The Department of History plans to continue such educational events, fostering a deeper appreciation for archaeology and heritage studies among the student community. The initiative for this event was taken by Mr Rizvan PS, a doctoral student and his team. The quiz master was Abdul Azeez, a third semester Masters student. There is a strong need to renovate the museum and take care of the site.
