An inspiring environmental initiative with the focal theme, “Mission Green – Seed for Future,” was organised by the Centre for Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences (CEOAS), University of Hyderabad, in collaboration with the Rotary International District 3150, on 10th November 2025 at the University of Hyderabad. The event beautifully highlighted the harmony between technology and nature through the innovative use of drones, for the first time, on the University campus for seed dispersal at selected locations with CEOAS serving as the take-off point.

The native horticulture fruit seeds, coated with rich organic compost and other essential nutrients, were optimized for efficient aerial dispersal — a creative step toward large-scale greening and reforestation.

The occasion was graced by Prof. B. J. Rao, Vice-Chancellor, University of Hyderabad, as the Chief Guest, and Dr. S. V. Raamprasad, District Governor (2025–26), Rotary International District 3150, as the Guest of Honour. The event was attended by Dr. Devesh Nigam, Registrar, University of Hyderabad; Prof. V. Chakravarthi, Head, CEOAS; Dr. Hari Sarvotham, Assistant Governor, Rotary District 3150; along with faculty members, staff, students, and distinguished Rotary members.

Prof Chakravarthi welcomed the gathering and briefed about event. Prof. B. J. Rao, in his address,  commended the initiative, emphasizing that such timely and much-needed actions are moral imperatives, essential for ensuring the planet’s long-term well-being. He reflected on how modern technology, while transformative, has also impacted the mental and emotional well-being of today’s youth. Initiatives that reconnect individuals with nature and community are essential for nurturing a balanced and healthy society.

Dr. S. V. Raamprasad  advocated the importance of adopting eco-friendly lifestyles as vital steps toward mitigating pollution and preserving ecological balance. He highlighted the role of Rotary International in promoting afforestation and sustainable practices, while stressing the importance of adopting chemical-free organic fertilizers and reducing consumerism as vital steps toward mitigating environmental pollution and preserving ecological balance.

Following the launch at CEOAS, seed dispersal continued across other designated sites within the University campus. “Mission Green Seed for Future” stands as a noteworthy example of scientific innovation blended with environmental stewardship. The initiative encapsulates the University’s dedication to create a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future.
