Dr. Ashok Gurram, a distinguished alumnus of the Department of Political Science, School of Social Sciences at the University of Hyderabad (UoH), has been appointed as an Assistant Professor in Political Science at the School of Social Sciences (SOSS), Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi. He joined the position in December 2025.

Hailing from the Jayashankar district of Telangana, Dr. Ashok has an exemplary academic record at the University. He completed his Integrated Masters in Political Science (2009–2014), during which he was awarded the University Gold Medal (SC/ST) and secured the UGC-JRF. He went on to complete his M.Phil. in 2017 on “Ethical Dilemmas in Indian Administration” under the guidance of Prof. G. Sudarsanam, and obtained his Ph.D. in 2022 under the supervision of Dr. D. Veerababu. His doctoral thesis examined “The Politics of Technology and Welfare: A Study of Aadhaar-based Services in Telangana State.”
Prior to joining IGNOU, Dr. Ashok served as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Political Science, GITAM (Deemed to be University), Hyderabad, where he was recognized as a MURTI Faculty Fellow for his contributions. His research has been published in journals and book chapters by Sage, Routledge (Taylor & Francis), and Palgrave, and he is a regular contributor of opinion pieces to newspapers and magazines. Notably, he received ICSSR grants for a project on Digital India (2023) and for a National Unity seminar on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel (2025).
