Prof. Karumuri Ashok, School of Physics, University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been conferred the prestigious Indian Meteorological Society Fellowship for the year 2025 in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the  climate research, which includes the discovery of the ENSO Modoki, tropical Indo-pacific teleconnections, the Indian earth system model development, monsoon variability and change, past and future climate change, seasonal and tropical decadal predictions and applications, urban extreme events, etc.

The IMS Awards (Sir Gilbert Walker Gold Medal, Honorary Fellows, Fellows, Associate Fellow, Young Scientist Award) for outstanding scientific contributions were formally announced, recognizing excellence in meteorology, monsoon studies, ocean–atmosphere interactions, climate services, and weather forecasting, and conferred upon the recipients in the inaugural ceremony of the INTROMET-2025 international conference held at the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, Pune, yesterday.

Till 2024, 63 scientists and academician received the IMS fellowship.
