Two alumni of the University of Hyderabad, Dr. Wasim Ahmad and Dr. Krishna Reddy Chittedi, have been selected for the “Prof M J Manohar Rao Award” for the year 2015. The award consists of cash prizes and a citation. The award was presented during the 52nd Annual Conference of the Indian Econometric Society, held at IIM, Kozhikode, from 4th to 6th January, 2016.
As a part of its Golden Jubilee celebrations, The Indian Econometric Society (TIES) instituted an award for young scholars (below 35 years) in India to commemorate Professor M. J. Manohar Rao’s contributions to economic research as well as to the TIES. Details on the award can be found in its website www.tiesindia.net. The selection committee, which scrutinized all applications/nominations, was chaired by Prof. V. R. Panchamukhi, the chairman of the TIES Trust.

Dr. Wasim Ahmad is presently working as an Assistant Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, Kanpur. Dr. Ahmad did his master in Economics from the School of Economics, University of Hyderabad during 2005-2007. He secured second rank in MA Economics in his batch. Dr. Ahmad obtained his PhD degree from Delhi University in 2014. He started his academic career at Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, and then he moved to IIT Kanpur and is serving there since June 2015. He has over 5 years of experience in industry, teaching and research. In the past, Dr. Ahmad was selected for the prestigious ‘Sir Ratan Tata Post-Doctoral Fellowship’ by Institute of Economic Growth (IEG), New Delhi. While working at the Roulac Global Places as Economist, he was selected for the ‘Best Research Innovation Award’. Dr. Ahmad conducts research in the fields of international finance-contagion and risk spillover, commodity derivatives and price risk modelling, emerging markets finance and energy economics. He has published research papers in several refereed journals including the Economic Modelling, Empirica, Journal of Economic Studies, Journal of Financial Economic Policy and OPEC Energy Review. He has also presented his research works in several national and international conferences.

Dr. Krishna Reddy Chittedi is currently the Assistant Professor in Economics at the Central University of Tamil Nadu (CUTN), Thiruvarur. Dr. Reddy received his PhD degree from Jawaharlal Nehru University in collaboration with Centre for Development Studies, India. He obtained M.Phil degree from University of Hyderabad during 2007 and MA degree from Osmania University, Hyderabad, Telangana, India. Dr. Reddy also qualified the University Grants Commission National Eligibility Test for Lectureship (UGC-NET) in December 2011. Prior to joining the CUTN, Dr. Reddy was with the Institute of Management Technology (IMT) and IBS, Hyderabad. Dr. Reddy has published more than twenty five research papers in various national and international journals. He has two books to his credit till now. He has participated and presented papers in various national and International seminars/conferences in India and abroad. He is a life member of the Indian Econometric Society, International Society for Development and Sustainability (ISDS) and the World Economic Association. Dr. Reddy is currently reviewer of more than fifteen research journals and serving as the editorial board member of nine journals. He has been invited to give expert opinions on various economic policy issues in Telugu News Channel. His research areas of interest include International Finance, Banking and Financial Services, Macroeconomic policy, Applied Time series and Indian Agriculture.
