The University of Hyderabad paid tribute to Babu Jagjivan Ram on his 118th birth anniversary, held on April 5, 2025, at the University Administration Building. Prof. Venkata Ramana, Director, MMTTC, Prof. LC Malliah, School of Economics, Shri P Thukaram, Controller of Examinations I/c, Shri Praveen Kumar, Joint Registrar, Finance and Accounts, Shri Abhishek Kumar, Deputy Registrar, Estate Section, faculty, officers, and staff were present.

Babu Jagjivan Ram, also known as Babuji, was a renowned freedom fighter and social activist from Bihar.

His notable achievements include founding the All-India Depressed Classes League in 1935, which aimed to attain equality for untouchables, and organizing the rural labour movement after being elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1937.

Babuji’s impressive political career spanned over four decades, with notable roles such as Deputy Prime Minister in India’s first non-Congress government and Union Minister handling various portfolios, including Defence, Agriculture, Irrigation, and Railways.

His contributions to India’s victory in the 1971 war are particularly noteworthy, leading to the creation of Bangladesh.

This tribute is a testament to Babuji’s enduring legacy and struggle for social justice, earning him respect and admiration that continues to this day.
