Meet our alumna, Ms. Stephy Jose, 2019 M.Sc. Physics graduate from the University of Hyderabad, where she completed her master’s project under the guidance of Prof. P. K. Suresh, who is currently the Dean of the School of Physics. A shining example of academic excellence! She went on to pursue her Ph.D. at the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Hyderabad.

The Humboldt Fellowship supports outstanding researchers to conduct independent research in Germany. Under this fellowship, she has worked with Prof. Hartmut Löwen at Heinrich-Heine-Universität Düsseldorf (May 2025-December 2025), where her research focused on the statistical physics of active matter and complex systems.
The Schmidt Science Fellowship is a prestigious global program that selects only 32 fellows worldwide each year. It’s an honour that she is the second person from an Indian university to receive this fellowship. As part of the program, Ms. Stephy joined the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), USA, January 2026, where she works with Prof. Mehran Kardar and Prof. Nikta Fakhri in the Physics of Living Systems Group, focusing on the self-organization of living systems.
