The School of Computer and Information Sciences (SCIS) and the School of Engineering Sciences and Technology (SEST), University of Hyderabad, jointly conducted a 21-day Student Induction Programme (SIP) – 2026 for the newly admitted students of the Integrated M.Tech. Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Integrated M.Tech. Materials Engineering (ME) programmes. The induction program is conducted as per the guidelines of the AICTE.
The programme was inaugurated on 13th August 2026 by Prof. J. Anuradha, Vice-Chancellor i/c, University of Hyderabad, who graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Mr. Richard King, Head, Academic Relations, TCS, Hyderabad, attended the inauguration as the Special Guest, while Mr. Challa Nag, Head, TCS, Hyderabad, was the Guest of Honour.
The induction programme was designed to provide the newly admitted students with a smooth transition into university life and to familiarize them with the University’s academic environment, campus facilities, student support systems and the diverse academic, cultural and extracurricular opportunities available to them.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Prof. Siba K. Udgata, Dean, SCIS, and Prof. V.V.S.S. Srikanth, Dean, SEST. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Anupama Potluri and Dr. Anjeneya Swami Kare from SCIS, and Dr. K. Guruvidyathri from SEST.
Over the course of 21 days, the programme featured a wide range of academic, interdisciplinary, creative, cultural, social and extracurricular activities. The objective was not only to introduce students to their respective academic programmes but also to help them understand the University’s culture and values, develop meaningful interactions with faculty and peers, and explore opportunities beyond the classroom.
The students participated in sessions and activities covering diverse areas such as creativity and innovation, philosophy of science, literature, mathematics and music, film appreciation, arts and theatre, social inclusion, cyber forensics, assistive technologies and student welfare. These sessions provided students with opportunities to develop creativity, critical thinking, social awareness and a broader perspective beyond their core academic disciplines.
The programme also included campus familiarization, mentorship and interaction sessions, sports and cultural activities, student club activities, and interactions with experts and alumni. Students were introduced to important University facilities and support services, including the library, Health Centre, sports facilities, hostels and other campus amenities. These activities helped students become familiar with the University’s resources and encouraged them to actively participate in campus life.
A dedicated SIP Committee comprising faculty members from SCIS and SEST played an important role in planning and conducting the programme. Prof. Rajeev Wankar, Dr. Y. V. Subba Rao, Dr. Ponnilavan, Dr. Balaji Padya and Dr. Nitin Wasekar provided valuable guidance and support in organizing the programme.
The programme was enriched by the participation of resource persons from within and outside the University, who interacted with the students and shared their knowledge, expertise and experiences. Their participation added diversity to the programme and exposed students to perspectives and areas of learning beyond their regular curriculum.
The successful organization of the programme was supported by the SCIS and SEST offices, faculty and staff members, and the staff of the Zakir Hussain Lecture Hall Complex, who provided the necessary administrative, logistical and operational support throughout the programme.
The 21-day programme concluded with a closing ceremony on 4th September 2026. The ceremony was attended by Prof. Siba K. Udgata, Dean, SCIS, and Prof. Koteswararao V. Rajulapati, Dean i/c, SEST. Prof. M. Ghanashyam Krishna, Director, Institution of Eminence (IoE), and Prof. Samrat L. Sabat, Director, Research & Development (R&D) Cell, attended the ceremony as distinguished guests.
The dignitaries interacted with the students and appreciated the efforts of the coordinators, committee members, faculty and staff involved in organizing the programme. The closing ceremony provided an opportunity to reflect on the experiences and learning gained by the students during the induction period and formally marked the successful completion of the 21-day programme.
The Induction Programme – 2026 provided the newly admitted students of Integrated M.Tech. CSE and ME with a comprehensive introduction to the academic, social and cultural environment of the University of Hyderabad. Through a combination of academic orientation, expert interactions, campus familiarization, creative activities, sports, cultural engagement and social awareness programmes, the induction programme helped students begin their academic journey with confidence, curiosity and a strong sense of belonging to the University.
