Asika V M, a doctoral candidate in the Department of Sociology at the University of Hyderabad (UoH), successfully presented her cutting-edge research at the prestigious 5th Labour Transfer School (LTS) 2026. The international summer school program was hosted from June 3–11, 2026, in the scenic city of Cagliari, Sardinia, Italy.

Working under the academic supervision of Dr. Anurekha Chari Wagh, Asika was selected to present her work in the highly competitive social reproduction panel titled “Life, Land, and Labour Struggles in Global Supply Chain Capitalism – Comparing Experiences Across the World Economy.”

Asika’s presentation, titled “Global Supply Chains, Social Reproduction, and Everyday Resistance: A Study of Women Workers in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu,” was drawn directly from her ongoing doctoral research.

The paper offers a critical, ground-level analysis of the gendered labour regime operating within the industrial hubs of Dindigul. By utilizing “social reproduction” as a central analytical lens, Asika’s work effectively demonstrates how global supply chains rely on systemic frameworks to exploit women workers. Crucially, her research moves beyond a narrative of mere victimization, shedding light on the intricate dynamics of women’s everyday resistance and their active, strategic negotiations within these oppressive structures.

The 5th Labour Transfer School provided an elite international platform for young scholars, researchers, and labor experts from across the world economy to debate structural inequalities and capital workflows. Asika’s participation underlines the University of Hyderabad’s sustained commitment to producing high-impact, globally relevant sociological research that elevates marginalized voices on the world stage.
