In accordance with UGC guidelines, the Office of the Dean of Students’ Welfare organised a Student Induction Programme on Tuesday, 19 August 2025, for newly admitted students in the Integrated Masters, PG programmes, and Ph.D. for the 2025-26 academic year. The event was held in the DST auditorium at the University of Hyderabad.

 

As part of the programme, three significant short films addressing Anti-Ragging and Anti-Drug awareness were screened for the students at the beginning of the programme. The proceedings began with an inspiring dance performance by the I.M.Sc students, followed by a warm welcome address from Prof. Rukma Rekha, the Deputy Dean of Students’ Welfare.

During the inaugural session, Prof. B. J. Rao, the Honourable Vice Chancellor, addressed the students, extending his heartfelt congratulations on their admission to the University of Hyderabad. He emphasised the invaluable resources available to them throughout their time at the University.

 

Dr. Devesh Nigam, the Registrar, presented a comprehensive overview of the various administrative divisions within the University. Prof. V. Srinivasa Rao, the Dean of Students’ Welfare, warmly welcomed the students and outlined the essential functions of the Dean of Students’ Welfare (DSW) office. He encouraged the students to actively seek support from the office whenever they face challenges or have questions, stressing that the staff is dedicated to assisting them on their academic journey.

Other distinguished statutory officers, including Shri P. Thukaram, the Controller of Examinations; Shri B. Srinivas, the Finance Officer; Dr. K. Ramachandra Rao, the Deputy Chief Warden; and Lt. Col. C. H. Hanumantha Rao, the University Engineer, provided insights into the exceptional services offered by their respective departments within the University.

In the second session, “Academics and Life at UoH,” the Deans from twelve schools shared valuable insights regarding the course structure, available opportunities, and diverse pathways within the students’ chosen fields at the University. They underscored the importance of academic engagement, key aspects of university life, and effective strategies for a successful experience. Furthermore, students were informed about essential dos and don’ts to observe throughout their time on campus.

The final session, entitled “Know Your University,” featured various administrative officers and unit heads who detailed the range of services available at the institution. They discussed offerings such as the Fellowship & Scholarship Section, Primary Health Centre, Counselling Unit, Sports Facilities, Anti-Discrimination services, the ICC, the IGM Library, ECDAP, PGAB, CNF, and Medical Insurance.

During the “Know Your University” session, Dr. Anjaneya Swamy, the faculty in-charge of the Department of Sports and Physical Education, presented a video showcasing the impressive campus sports facilities for students. The video was inspiring, effectively highlighting the diverse array of sports amenities provided by the university.

The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Prof. N. Rukma Rekha, the Deputy Dean of Students’ Welfare. She acknowledged the contributions and efforts of everyone involved in executing the student induction programme. The Dean of Students’ Welfare (DSW) expressed appreciation for all participants, particularly highlighting Mr. Aravind Kumar, Mrs. Swetha, Mr. Naveen, and Mr. Sreeram, who worked tirelessly throughout the week to ensure the event’s success on 19 August 2025. The DSW also appreciated Prof. Rukma Rekha for her essential role on stage during the day’s activities. Refreshments were provided to all participants at the end of the programme.
