The University of Hyderabad (UoH) extends its heartiest congratulations to its distinguished alumnus, Ambassador Syed Akbaruddin, IFS (Retd.), on being appointed as a Director to the Central Board of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet approved his appointment as a Part-Time Non-Official Director on the RBI Central Board for a term of four years from August 2026.

Ambassador Akbaruddin earned his Master’s degree in Political Science from the University of Hyderabad (1980–1982) before joining the Indian Foreign Service in 1985. Over an illustrious diplomatic career spanning several decades, he served in high-profile roles including the Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations (2016–2020), Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (2012–2015), and India’s representative to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in Vienna.
