The Horticulture Division at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) started the University Greening Programme as an environmental greening strategy to increase the tree stock on the campus by planting at least 5000 trees during this year. As a part of this massive programme, the Horticultural Division, under the leadership of Professor Attipalli R Reddy from the Department of Plant Sciences of the university, started the plantation programme on 24th June 2015 in and around the School of Life Sciences building by planting several trees by involving the faculty, non-teaching staff and students of different departments in the school.

Dr. C. Rangarajan, the Chancellor of the University inaugurated the plantation program by planting a Royal Palm tree. He emphasized the need of greening the environment. Professor R.P Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of the University and Professor P. Reddanna, Dean of the School also participated by planting the trees. All the faculty and staff who participated and planted trees felt that they own a tree each from now.

Professor Reddy said that they will now go for the next phase by involving the entire faculty, staff, research scholars as well as the students of the UoH in association with the Haritha Haaram program initiated by the Government of Telangana.
