The Dean of Students’ Welfare office organised the Student Induction Programme on Tuesday, 24 September 2024, for the newly admitted Integrated Masters and PG programmes students for the academic year 2024-25 in the Savitribai Phule Auditorium (DST) at the University of Hyderabad. The programme started at 02:00 pm with a Carnatic vocal song and classical dance, followed by a formal welcome by Prof. Rukma Rekha, Deputy DSW – 1.
While delivering the inaugural address, Prof. B. J. Rao, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, congratulated the students who were admitted to the University of Hyderabad and emphasised the positive utility of the resources available at the University.

Dr. Devesh Nigam, the Registrar, explained the different administrative sections at the university. Other statuary officers of the university Shri. P. Thukaram, Controller of Examinations, Prof. V. Srinivasa Rao, DSW, Dr. Suvashish Rana, Chief Warden and Shri. Yadaiah, the Executive Engineer (I/C), explained about their respective units and services offered.

The theme of the second session is ‘Academics and Life at UoH’. The Deans of various schools (Academic Units) explained the framework of courses, opportunities and different avenues in the fields chosen by the students.

They also explained the importance of academics and the precautions they should follow at their respective academic unit levels and the university. The students were also sensitised about the dos and don’ts they are expected to follow during their stay on the campus.

The theme of the last session is ‘Know your University’. Various administrative officers and unit heads at the University were invited to interact with the students. The section heads from the Fellowship & Scholarship Section, Primary Health Centre, Counselling Unit, Dept. of Physical Education and Sports, NSS, ICC, IGM Library, ECDAP, PGAB, CNF, and Medical Insurance delivered the processes and facilities that are available in these sections.

Dr. Aranya Kumar, the cultural coordinator at the University of Hyderabad, coordinated the cultural events for the induction programme. Ms Vibha Krishnakumar, from integrated masters in biology, performed Carnatic vocal; Vidwan Ramakrishna accompanied her on Mridangam and Vidwan Rajshekhar on violin.

She started with Ganesha sloka, continued with Tyagaraja and Shyama Shastri compositions, and ended her performance with a beautiful Thillana.

Students from the Dept. of Dance performed the Bharathanatyam and Kuchipudi dance. They started with Ganesha Sloka and Tisra Alarippu in Bharatanatyam, performed by Akshara, Vaishnavi, and Moumitha Saha. Secondly, Goutham, Sneha, and Swathi performed a Tarangam in Kuchipudi.

The concluding item was a beautiful Thillana. Prof. J. Anuradha of the Dept. of Dance choreographed the event.

The first semester students from the Dept. of Theatre Arts performed ‘Mayur Bhanj chhau’. This folk performance depicted warriors using swords, bows and arrows, gadha, etc.

The music included shehnai, charchari, dhol instruments, etc. Upendra Mohanta choreographed this performance, which was performed under Prof. Kanhaiya Kumar’s guidance.

Ms. Kavya and the dance team from the University of Hyderabad brought new energy among the students in the induction programme by performing a dance mashup. The students enthusiastically participated in the student induction programme till 06:40 pm. The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. Naresh Annem, Deputy DSW – 2.
