The University of Hyderabad (UoH) celebrated the 69th Independence Day with Prof. R. P. Sharma, Vice- Chancellor, unfurling the National Flag at Gurbakhsh Singh Maidan. The celebration was well attended by all sections of the University fraternity and guests from outside.
On the auspicious occasion, Vice- Chancellor Prof. Sharma congratulated everybody and said “On the occasion of Independence Day Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi mentioned the word “Team India in his speech, where we can call it as ‘Team UoH’ in the campus; UoH has bagged the first ever Visitor’s award for the best university in India.” This was not achieved in one day, it has come by the untiring efforts of the teachers, students and staff as a team, that’s ‘Team UoH’ and I am sure that our university continues this team work, he averred.
Prof. Sharma also recognized the infrastructure related issues being faced by the students. He mentioned that the University has been appraising the UGC and the MHRD on these issues and has been requesting for adequate funding support but, we are yet to receive these supports.
Prof. Sharma expressed his happiness that the University is involved in many big ticket research projects with support from various funding agencies and a good number of them have also resulted in patent registration. He urged the University community to work hard to achieve higher level of recognition worldwide, reflected in high world ranking.
Finally, Prof. Sharma urged everyone to preserve and maintain the rich flora and fauna of the university and contribute effectively to ensure a clean and green campus.
On the occasion, the Vice- Chancellor presented award certificates to the security personnel for their dedicated service in the University. Shri G. Victor Kumar, the Security Officer resolved many security issues in the best interest of the University and its fraternity. He maintained a good tranquility with police officials and maintained peace and harmony in the university. He received the award for the highest traditions of security of the University. Shri Kammari Bramha Chary, Security Guard (Security Force Private Limited) while performing his duty on June 2015, at 5:00 PM received the information regarding a small deer being attacked by the stray dogs in South campus. He immediately rushed to the area and secured the deer, provided the first aid and informed the zoo officials for the treatment. For this act, beyond call of his duty, Chary was awarded the Certificate of merit by the University Vice- Chancellor. Shri Bhimambau, Security guard (Security Force Private Limited) was awarded the merit certificate for accomplishing the task of catching snakes and monitoring their rehabilitation. He also ensured the campus safety and fraternity.
Some delightful and motivating cultural events including few group songs and dance performances based on social harmony and National Integrity were performed by the students of UoH primary school and Kendriya Vidyalaya UoH Campus Students. There was also a display of Karate moves by the students of the University.
