The University of Hyderabad (UoH) community turned up in full force to participate in the World Bicycle Day Cycle Rally held on June 7, 2026. Organized by the Sports Authority of Telangana (SATG) under the Fit India – Sunday on Cycle initiative, the grand event took place at the GMC Balayogi Sports Complex in Gachibowli.

The rally drew an overwhelming response from the university, with more than 100 students, faculty members, and staff actively participating.

Assembling at the stadium in the early hours of the morning, the enthusiastic UoH contingent completed their registrations and received event T-shirts. Before hitting the pedals, the participants joined a high-energy Zumba fitness session, setting a vibrant tone for the morning ahead.

The rally was formally flagged off by His Excellency Shri Shiv Pratap Shukla, the Hon’ble Governor of Telangana. The event was graced by several distinguished dignitaries, including:

  • Shri D. Sridhar Babu – Hon’ble IT Minister, Govt. of Telangana
  • Shri Jayesh Ranjan – Special Chief Secretary, Govt. of Telangana
  • Shri K. Shiva Sena Reddy – Chairman, SATG
  • Dr. A. Sonibala Devi – VC & Managing Director, SATG

The cyclists rode a scenic route from the GMC Balayogi Sports Complex to the iconic Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge and back. Through this ride, participants actively promoted physical wellness, healthy living, and environmental sustainability, advocating for cycling as an eco-friendly mode of transportation.

Upon returning to the stadium, the riders were awarded medals and certificates of completion, followed by a networking breakfast and a group photo session.

In recognition of the university’s exceptional turn-out and spirit, Dr. Siddhartha Anandesi (Assistant Director, Department of Physical Education & Sports, Office of the Dean Students’ Welfare) was felicitated on behalf of the University. He was presented with an Appreciation Medal and Framed Certificate by the Managing Director of the Sports Authority of Telangana.

The Department of Physical Education & Sports, alongside the Office of the Dean Students’ Welfare, extends its sincere gratitude to the UoH administration for their constant encouragement. They also thank the Sports Authority of Telangana and the Government of Telangana for organizing this meaningful initiative that perfectly blends community fitness with environmental consciousness.
