The Davos Alzheimer’s Collaborative (DAC), a flagship initiative of the World Economic Forum (WEF)  has joined hands with leading Indian researchers to advance interdisciplinary research for the early diagnosis and prevention of Alzheimer’s disease.

Dr. Shiva Ram Male, Assistant Professor , School of Medical Sciences, University of Hyderabad (UoH), and Research Coordinator for the ISR–IIT Madras–DAC Collaboration, and Dr. Rashmin Gandhi, Honorary Adjunct Professor at UoH and Country Director for DAC–India Projects, met Dr. George Vradenburg, Chairmen of the Davos Alzheimer’s Collaborative, and the global DAC leadership team as a part of Leadership roundatable on Alzhimer’s Innovation on November 9, 2025at ITC-Kohenur Hotel, Knowledge city, Hyderabad .

Dr. George Vradenburg is the founding chairman of the Davos Alzheimer’s Collaborative, an initiative convened by the Global CEO Initiative on Alzheimer’s disease and the World Economic Forum. He is also the chairman of UsAgainstAlzheimer’s, which he cofounded in October 2010 and has served in senior executive and legal positions at CBS, FOX, and AOL/Time Warner. The high-level meeting focused on integrating neurology, ophthalmology, and speech-language sciences to identify early diagnostic biomarkers for Alzheimer’s disease. The team discussed the potential of neuro-ophthalmic and biomarkers   as accessible, community-level indicators of early cognitive declinean approach that could significantly enhance the reach and affordability of Alzheimer’s screening in India.

Dr. George Vradenburg and Dr. Rashmin Gandhi highlighted that India, as one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, has both a responsibility and an opportunity to pioneer innovative healthcare models. They emphasized, “Before Alzheimer’s controls us, we must find innovative, scalable solutions that empower the Government of India and its public health systems to act early.”

Dr. Shiva Ram Male and Dr. Rashmin Gandhi  expressed that it is “an honour to contribute to DAC’s visionary mission under the leadership of Dr. George Vradenburg and the World Economic Forum.” He added that “this partnership reflects India’s growing role in the global effort to advance Alzheimer’s prevention, diagnosis, and care through collaborative science and innovation.”

The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to strengthen research build multi-centre cohort studies, and foster capacity building across Indian academic and healthcare institutions. These initiatives align with DAC’s global vision of creating an inclusive, data-driven, and culturally contextual model for Alzheimer’s research and advocacy.

 

Prof. Ramesh Kumar Mishra, Dean, School of Medical Sciences, appreciated the faculty for their active participation and collaboration with global organisations. He noted that such engagements significantly enhance the academic and research standards of the University of Hyderabad. He also welcomed the growing culture of interdisciplinary research within the School, emphasising that these efforts play a vital role in strengthening national development and scientific advancement.
