The Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) Library, University of Hyderabad, organised an online orientation session on the Global NewsBank database on 13 March 2026 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM (IST). The programme aimed to introduce the University community to the features and research potential of the database, which provides access to a wide range of international, national, and regional newspapers.

The programme began with the inaugural address by Dr. O.S.S. Prasad, University Librarian (I/c), who highlighted the importance of newspaper archives as valuable resources for research and current awareness. He explained that databases such as Global NewsBank function similar to a newspaper clipping service, enabling users to retrieve news reports, editorials, and historical coverage across diverse subject areas. He noted that such resources are useful for understanding developments in politics and governance, business and economy, science and technology, education, health, environment, sports, and arts and culture.

The orientation session was conducted by Mr. Rajdev Narayanasamy, Director of Business Development, Asia-Pacific, NewsBank, who demonstrated the platform’s features, content coverage, and effective search strategies for academic and research purposes.

Faculty members, research scholars, students, and library professionals attended the session and actively interacted with the resource person.

The programme concluded with concluding remarks and a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Gone Rangappa, Assistant Librarian, IGM Library, who thanked the resource person and participants for their valuable contributions.
