The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC), University of Hyderabad, organised the second programme under its SAHAS Gender Sensitisation initiative on 11 August 2026 at the Centre for Integrated Studies (CIS). The programme, titled “Creating Safer Spaces: Consent, Boundaries & Respect”, was held at the CIS Auditorium in collaboration with the Women’s Safety Wing of the Telangana Police.
The programme was organised to sensitise students on the importance of creating a safe, respectful and inclusive campus environment. The session focused on the significance of consent, understanding and respecting personal boundaries, and fostering a culture of dignity and mutual respect.
Ms. Asiya Shervani, Head, SAHAS Team, Women’s Safety Wing, Telangana Police, addressed the participants. The session dealt with issues relating to consent, boundaries and respectful interpersonal conduct, while also encouraging participants to recognise inappropriate behaviour and understand the importance of speaking up and seeking appropriate support. The discussion highlighted the need for greater awareness and sensitivity towards gender-related concerns in educational spaces.
The programme provided an interactive platform for participants to engage with the speaker and reflect on questions concerning consent, personal boundaries, respectful behaviour and safety. The session emphasised the collective responsibility of creating an environment where all members of the university community can participate with dignity and without fear or discomfort.
The programme was attended by Prof. Lalitha Guruprasad, Presiding Officer, ICC; Prof. Krishnaveni Mishra, Member, ICC; and P. Sai Pranathi, Student Member, ICC.
