Prof. B. L. V. Prasad, an alumnus of the School of Chemistry, University of Hyderabad, has been conferred the prestigious Prof. C. N. R. Rao Bengaluru India Nano Science Award 2026. The award, instituted by the Government of Karnataka, recognizes outstanding contributions to nanoscience and nanotechnology and was presented during the inaugural function of Bengaluru India Nano 2026 on the 4th August, 2026 by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Karnataka Shri DK Shiva Kumar, in the august presence of Bharata Ratna Prof. CNR Rao.
Prof. Prasad completed his M.Sc. in Chemistry (1989–1991) and Ph.D. in Chemistry (1991–1997) from the School of Chemistry, University of Hyderabad, where he carried out his doctoral research under the guidance of Prof. T. P. Radhakrishnan. Following his Ph.D., Prof. Prasad pursued two post-doctoral research assignments abroad before joining the CSIR–National Chemical Laboratory (CSIR-NCL), Pune, where he established an internationally recognized research programme in nanoscience and materials chemistry. From 2021 to 2026, he served as the Director of the Centre for Nano and Soft Matter Sciences (CeNS), Bengaluru, an autonomous institute of the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. Having successfully completed his tenure as Director, he has now returned to CSIR-NCL, Pune, where he continues his research and academic activities.
Over the past three decades, Prof. Prasad has made significant contributions to the fields of nanoscience, nanomaterials, and materials chemistry. His research spans the synthesis, self-assembly, surface chemistry, and applications of functional nanomaterials, with contributions to both fundamental science and emerging technologies. His work has been widely recognized nationally and internationally.
