Anjana M. Nair, a Doctoral Candidate under the supervision of Prof. Suchandra Ghosh at the Department of History, University of Hyderabad presented a paper in the 13th International Convention of Asia Scholars (ICAS 13) held in Surabaya, Indonesia from 28th July to 1st August 2024.

Her paper titled “Transcultural Encounters and Material Metamorphosis: Unravelling the Social Lives of Indian Religious Objects in Transit” attempts a gendered unravelling of objects that cross boundaries, situating them within the binaries of secular and religious, temple effect and museum effect, and that of resonance and wonderment. It was presented in the session titled “Travelling Objects, Species, and Ideas II” with the major theme as ‘From Oceanic Crossroads: Empires, Networks and Histories’.

Anjana thanks IoE, University of Hyderabad for funding the travel, and making it possible for her to attend the conference.
