The University of Hyderabad (UoH) welcomed a delegation of 21 German Universities, led by Vice Chancellors and Vice Presidents, through the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) on 18th March 2025.
This visit marks a significant step towards fostering Indo-German academic partnerships and promoting internationalization in higher education.
Dr. Katja Lasch – Director DAAD India and Dr. Kai Sicks – DAAD General Secretary were part of the delegation.
Professor B J Rao, Vice Chancellor, UoH, extended a warm welcome to the delegates and provided an overview of the university’s mission, academic strengths, and global collaborations.
He emphasized the growing importance of international collaborative education and the potential for combined degrees within existing regulatory frameworks.
Professor Brahmanandam Manavathi, Director, Office for International Affairs, presented the history and current activities of internationalization at UoH.
He highlighted the university’s Study in India program, which began in 1998 with just 8 students.
Faculty members showcased ongoing research projects to the delegation. The delegation identified key areas to strengthen strategic and academic cooperation:
1. Joint research projects and research collaboration
2. Double/Dual Degree opportunities and international curriculum development (aligned with NEP 2020)
3. Viable financial models for student and faculty exchanges
4. Recent regulatory changes facilitating joint degrees with international universities
To explore potential research collaborations, the delegation visited the facilities at Aspire BioNest, School of Life Sciences; School of Engineering Sciences and Technology, School of Physics, Electronics, Centre for Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences and; School of Mathematics and Statistics, School of Computer and Information Sciences, School of Management Studies, School of Economics.
