India Today has ranked The Department of Communication, University of Hyderabad 3rd overall in the India Today Rankings of the Best Colleges in 2019. As in the past the department is the top ranked public University Department in India. To add to that it is in the top 5 institutions in the country when it comes to colleges with the ‘Lowest Tuition Fee’ and colleges that offers the ‘Best Value for Money’ for the course offered. In fact the Department is the only public funded institution from South India in the top 10 rankings.
The Department of Communication was started in the year 1988 and has recently completed 30 years of consistently offering one of the best Communication Programmes in the country. Apart from that the Department is also home to the UNESCO Chair for Community Media since 2011, it also runs a campus community radio station in the form of Bol Hyderabad 90.4 FM and has a fully equipped Television Studio along with a Print / New Media lab. The Department offers programmes leading to Masters and Doctoral degrees. The emphasis at the Masters level is on Print & New Media, Communication & Media Studies, and Radio & Video Production. The department prides itself on being one of the best research centres with Ph.D. scholars conducting research in areas that cut across humanistic and social science methods.
