The School of Life Sciences at University of Hyderabad (UoH) organised an International Symposium on Malaria Biology and 29th National Congress of Parasitology on Basic and Applied Aspects during Nov 1-3, 2018. Professor P. Prakash Babu, (Pro-Vice Chancelor-2, UoH) was the convener of the conference.

Honorable Vice Chancellor of UoH, Prof Appa Rao Podile presided over the meeting. Other dignitries that graced the occasion included Dr. Subeer Majumdar, Director, NIAB, Hyderabad, Prof Ramaiah, Dean School of Life Sciences and Prof Sukhbir Kaur, President, Indian Society for Parasitology. The conference was organized under the auspices of UoH jointly with CCMB, CDFD, NIAB, TIFR (H) and the Indian Society for Parasitology. The agenda for meeting was to bring all leading parasite and malaria biologist of India for brain-storming discussions on the most recent developments in this field. The congregation included 120 participants and 40 speakers across India. The chief sessions covered in this 3 day meeting included varied topics like host parasite interactions, parasitic zoonosis, targeting protozoan parasites, molecular biology of malaria parasites, novel drug targets for malaria, omics and other approaches for target identification.

The meeting concluded successfully with an award ceremony that conferred prizes to students who presented outstanding oral and poster presentations.
