The School of Engineering Sciences and Technology (SEST), University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been awarded an Indo-German bilateral collaborative research project under the 2+2 scheme to work on the development of light-weight spring steels for automotive applications by Indo-German Science & Technology Centre (IGSTC).

SEST will be collaborating with the giant steel manufacturer, JSW steels as an industrial partner from Indian side and University of Siegen (USI) and Muhr and Bender KG (MUBEA) are the academic and industrial partners from the German side respectively. JSW steels would be making the appropriate steel grades required for light-weight automotive springs in continuous collaboration with UoH and USI. Once the optimal microstructure and targeted mechanical properties are met, MUBEA will take up the manufacturing of springs for commercial applications. SEST, from its inception, has been involved in high-end fundamental research work that would eventually result in an end product.

In this project, SEST would receive a grant of Rs. 1.52 crores for the next three years and Dr. Koteswararao V. Rajulapati, Associate Professor in SEST would be coordinating this project as Principal Investigator from the Indian academic partner, UoH.
