Noted Academic, critic, and cultural historian, Prof Sachidananda Mohanty, MA English (1977-79), an alumnus of the second batch, has been appointed to the prestigious Sri Aurobindo Chair at Panjab University, Chandigarh. He is the former Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Odisha and former Professor and Head, Department of English, University of Hyderabad.
In a career spanning more than three decades, Prof. Mohanty has carved out for himself a special place in the field of higher education in India and abroad. He is the former Vice-Chancellor of the Central University of Odisha.
Winner of many national and international awards, such as the Katha, British Council, Fulbright, [twice], Charles Wallace, and the Salzburg, he has published extensively in the field of British, American, Gender, translation, and post-colonial Studies. His books have appeared in Oxford, Sage, Routledge, and Orient Longman, among other notable Publishing Houses.
Dr. Mohanty’s contributions to the academic genres of travel writing, cosmopolitanism, institutional history, early women’s writing in Eastern India, and the postcolonial/ cultural history of India have been widely recognized as path-breaking at the national and international level.
He had his early education at the Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education, Pondicherry. Prof. Mohanty is recognized widely as an outstanding scholar of Sri Aurobindo at the national and international level.
