Mr. Shiva Ram Male was awarded a prestigious travel fellowship to attend the ARVO 2022 Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado, from May 1-4, 2022. This Fellowship is a very competitive travel award called the Developing Country Eye Researcher Travel Fellowship. This fellowship covers the cost of Fellow travel, including flight, hotel, and meeting registration, which the ARVO Foundation for Eye Research will support. The award amount averages $4,500 per person and is also provided with $340 to offset daily expenses.

Currently, Mr Shiva Ram is only one in the category of a Research Scholar to receive this travel grant in PhD category from Indian Universities. Every year ARVO receives 2000 to 3000 abstracts submission out of that only the top 100 above will be considered for presenting in the meeting. The abstract title: Impact of colour vision deficiency on quality of life in a sample of Indian population presented by the scholar in this Annual international meeting will be published in the prestigious Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Science journal ARVO (Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology) in upcoming issues in 2022.

Shiva ram is currently working under Prof B R Shamanna, School of Medical Sciences, the University of Hyderabad and Prof Chakravarthy Bhagvati, Dean, SCIS, University of Hyderabad and previously by Late. Dr Rishi Bhardwaj, Assistant Professor, School of Medical Sciences, University of Hyderabad (2018-2020).  This project was also collaborated by Dr Rashmin Gandhi, Neurophthalmologist, Centre for Sight Hospital, Hyderabad and Dr Baskar Theagarayan, Senior Faculty member in Optometry, University of Huddersfield, UK.

The purpose of this fellowship is to enable vision researchers in economically developing countries to attend the ARVO Annual Meeting where they can take advantage of the educational and scientific programs, enhance the knowledge of the area of vision research in which Fellows are working, and make contact with colleagues, and gather the information that will be useful to aid in building the research infrastructure in Fellow’s home country.
