After a gap of more than two years the University of Hyderabad (UoH) sub-chapter of SPIC MACAY organised a Qawwali Programme by the Warsi Brothers at the university campus on 25th November 2021. The Qawwali attracted a sizable crowd to the newly constructed Amphi Theatre at the Students’ Amenities Centre. The Warsi Brothers captivated the audience with their soulful Sufiyana rendition of Qawwali for almost two hours.
The student volunteers of UoH SPIC MACAY were ably guided by Dr. Zahidul Haque, Cultural Coordinator and Associate Professor of Urdu at the University of Hyderabad and Mrs. Lakshmi Kona of Hyderabad chapter of SPIC MACAY. The programme saw students, faculty and officials swooning to the melodious Qawwali numbers.
Nazeer Ahmed Khan Warsi and Naseer Ahmed Khan Warsi of the Warsi Brothers were born in Hyderabad. The brothers received their training in music from their father Ustad Zaheer Ahmed Khan Warsi & grandfather Padmashri Aziz Ahmed Khan Warsi, who was the world famous Qawwal and his Qawwali was Classical Based.
Their father Ustad Zaheer Ahmed Khan Warsi was National Awarded as A Qawwal & Classical Singer. Nazeer Ahmed Khan Warsi and Naseer Ahmed Khan Warsi belong to “The Qawwal Bachchey of Delhi Gharana.” Descendents of Disciple of Hazrat Ameer Khusro (RH) and Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya (RH). Their Ancestor Allama-e-Mousiqui Mohammed Siddiq Khan Sahab was a Royal Classical Singer of King Nizam of Hyderabad. His Uncle Miyan Taanras Khan Sahab was a Royal Classical Singer of The Mughal Court. Nazeer Ahmed Khan Warsi, Naseer Ahmed Khan Warsi are music bearers of gayeki of Delhi Gharana and is noted for its melody and improvisation. They are recognised specially for their Traditional Sufiana Qawwali, Ghazal, Thumri, Bhajan and Classical Bandish. Nazeer Ahmed Khan Warsi and Naseer Ahmed Khan Warsi jointly received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for their contribution to Qawwali.
