The University of Hyderabad (UOH) made a strong presence at the “5K Run for Brain & Spine Safety” organised at Gachibowli Stadium, Hyderabad, on September 6, 2026. More than 300 students, faculty, staff and members of the UOH community participated enthusiastically in the event, reaffirming the University’s commitment to promoting health, fitness, safety and a healthy lifestyle.

The event was organised by Goutam Neuro Care, in association with UG Dreams Health, the Indian Society for Brain Stroke Prevention (ISBSP), and the Sarala Devi Foundation, with the objective of raising awareness of brain and spine safety, stroke prevention, road safety, physical fitness, and healthy living.
Fitness Activities Set the Tone
Prior to the commencement of the 5K Run, participants took part in a series of energetic warm-up sessions, Zumba dance and fitness challenges. These activities created an enthusiastic atmosphere among the participants and helped prepare them physically and mentally for the run. The sessions also highlighted the importance of incorporating regular exercise and physical activity into everyday life.

UOH Students Shine in the 5K Run
A significant highlight for the University of Hyderabad was the outstanding performance of its students in the run.
Ganesh, a student from the School of Humanities, University of Hyderabad, secured 3rd place, while Vinay, another UOH student, secured 4th place in the 5K Run by the Additional SP G. Venkateshwarlu (CID), Crime Investigation Department, Hyderabad, Telangana. Their impressive performances brought pride to the University and showcased the sporting talent, competitive spirit and fitness culture among UOH students.

The achievements of Ganesh and Vinay added a special dimension to the University’s participation and served as an inspiration to fellow students and members of the UOH community.
Awareness on Brain, Spine and Road Safety
The event was graced by Dr Uday Gautham, Founder and Surgeon of Goutam Neuro Care and the event organiser, who addressed the participants and shared important messages on brain and spine safety, preventive healthcare and the significance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle. His interaction helped reinforce the event’s central message and encouraged participants to take greater responsibility for their health and well-being.

Additional SP G. Venkateshwarlu (CID), Crime Investigation Department, Hyderabad, Telangana, addressed the gathering on the serious issue of road accidents and road safety. He highlighted the statistics and concerns related to road accidents and appealed to all participants to strictly follow traffic rules and safety measures while driving and travelling on roads. His message emphasised that responsible road behaviour is essential for protecting not only oneself but also other road users.

The event also received enthusiastic support from celebrity personalities Divi (Big Boss Telugu fame) and Nanda Kishore, along with Madhavi, a Zumba dancer, who promoted the event, interacted with participants and delivered awareness slogans. They congratulated the organisers and the foundation for undertaking the initiative to promote public awareness of brain and spinal safety, fitness, and healthy living.
Participation of UOH Officials
University of Hyderabad officials were invited as special guests for the event and actively participated in the programme. Prof. Naresh Annem, Deputy Dean of Students’ Welfare (DSW), University of Hyderabad, and Dr Siddhartha Anandesi, Assistant Director, Department of Physical Education & Sports, O/o DSW, University of Hyderabad, represented the University and joined the participants in the 5K Run.
Their participation encouraged the UOH contingent and reinforced the University’s emphasis on creating a healthy, active and fitness-oriented campus community.

A Celebration of Fitness and Community Participation
The organisers provided participants with event T-shirts, medals, certificates, and refreshments, which added to the programme’s enthusiasm and celebratory spirit.
The participation of more than 300 members of the University of Hyderabad community, combined with the notable achievements of its students, made the event a significant occasion for the University. The initiative provided an opportunity for the UOH community to come together beyond the campus and actively participate in a meaningful public health and awareness campaign.
The event concluded with a strong collective message on the importance of Brain & Spine Safety, stroke prevention, physical fitness, road safety and healthy living. The enthusiastic participation of the UOH community reflected the University’s continued efforts to encourage sports, physical activity, wellness and responsible citizenship.
