The School of Medical Sciences held a Golden Jubilee lecture series on April 5, 2024. Prof. Michael A Webster, Foundational Professor and Director of the Centre for Integrative Neuroscience (NIH-COBRE), University of Nevada, delivered a presentation titled Visual Adaptation and Perceptual Experiences. In his lecture, Prof. Webster summarised that all sensory systems continually adapt their responses to the current stimulus environment. These alterations take place at several levels of brain processing, influencing the majority, if not all, visual experiences. He revealed the significant effects of adaptation on human visual perception, as well as how it influences whether people see their surroundings differently or similarly.
Dr. Shiva Ram Male, Assistant Professor, organized the lecture Virtually, followed by Guest of Honour Dr. Rashmin Gandhi, Consultant Neuro-Ophthalmologist, Director-Axon MedTech PVT Ltd, Foresight Worldwide, Cygnus LLC, UAE, and Adjunct Professor-School of Medical Sciences, University of Hyderabad. Prof. Geeta K Vemuganti, Dean of the School of Medical Sciences, spoke briefly on school development and the University of Hyderabad’s commitment and excellence in research during the past 50 years and also encouraged students and faculty members to actively participate in research. The vote of thanks was ended by Dr. Nagraju Konda, Associate Professor and Course Coordinator (I.M. Optom), who expressed his views that the discussion will benefit and motivate aspiring optometry and vision science students. Further, the attended students and faculty had interacted with Prof Webster.
