On 28th October 2024, the Office for International Affairs (OIA) at University of Hyderabad (UoH) hosted an engaging welcome and orientation program for the new batch of international students at the SIP building. The event was graced by several distinguished dignitaries, including Dr. Devesh Nigam, Registrar, Sri Thukaram Porika, in-charge Controller of Examinations, Prof Samrat Sabat, Director of Research and Development, Prof Ghanashyam Krishna, Director of Institution of Eminence and Lieutenant Colonel Hanumantha Rao, University Engineer. Their presence emphasized the importance of creating a supportive environment for our international students, making them feel welcomed and valued. Prof. Bramanandam Manavathi, Director of the Office for International Affairs, along with Associate Director Prof. Arvind Susarla, warmly welcomed the guests and students and commenced the event with a traditional lamp-lighting ceremony in celebration of Diwali.

 

 

Each of our esteemed guests shared insightful remarks, highlighting the university’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and cross-cultural exchange. The Director OIA, Prof Bramanandam Manavathi gave the welcome address and highlighted the vibrant international community on campus, encouraging students to embrace both academic and cultural learning experiences. The Registrar provided encouraging statistics on India’s economic growth and highlighted why Hyderabad stands out as an ideal city for education and beyond, noting that it is currently the fastest-growing metro in India. The Controller of Examinations reassured the students of a transparent and supportive assessment process. This was followed by an address by the Psychological Counsellor, Dr. Hymavathi who emphasized the importance of mental well-being for a successful academic experience. They outlined the various support services available on campus and encouraged students to reach out whenever they feel overwhelmed or face challenges, whether personal or academic.

 

 

Following these addresses, the atmosphere turned festive as the new international students showcased their cultural heritage through a series of lively performances. From traditional dances to folk songs, the students transported the gathering to different parts of the world, sharing pieces of their culture with warmth and pride. This cultural show not only celebrated their diverse backgrounds but also set a collaborative and inclusive tone for the coming academic journey.

 

Overall, the event was a heartwarming celebration of unity in diversity, and it set a positive foundation for the international students as they embark on this new chapter. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Associate Director, Prof. Arvind Susarla.
