We’re thrilled to share an update on Aysha Farhana Chakkampully, an alumna of the 2017-2019 Master’s batch in Sociology at the University of Hyderabad. Aysha has recently joined Charles University in the Czech Republic as a Lecturer at the Institute of Sociological Studies, Faculty of Social Sciences, while pursuing her PhD in Sociology.

Aysha’s doctoral research explores “Embodiment in Islam: The Everyday Menstrual Experiences of Hyderabadi Muslim Women in India.” Her PhD project, funded by the Grants Agency of Charles University (GAUK), investigates “Changing Social Meanings of Menstruation – the Role of Taboos, Rituals, and Agency in the Experience of Indian Women.”
Aysha has held various international research affiliations, including:
– PhD Associate Fellow at CEFRES, Prague
– Erasmus+ intern at the University of Vienna
– Visiting PhD Fellowships at the University of Cologne and University of Copenhagen
Her teaching excellence was recognized with the Golden Course Award (2024/2025) for the best Master’s program course at Charles University.
Aysha attributes her success to her years at the University of Hyderabad, which formed the foundation for her academic journey.
