The Department of Urdu, School of Humanities, University of Hyderabad organized a marvelous and memorable programme of Meet the Poet on 2nd April 2026 at the Auditorium, School of Humanities, University of Hyderabad wherein the legendary poet Dr Nawaz Deobandi was the Chief Guest.

The poet was welcomed by the students, research scholars and teachers of the Department of Urdu. Prof A. R. Manzar, the in-charge Head of the Department welcomed the Chief Guest Dr Nawaz Deobandi and Prof. Syed Mahmood Kazmi from the Dept. of Translation, Maulana Azad National Urdu University who was the Guest of Honour on behalf of the department.

Mr Kafeel Ahmad, a research scholar of the department, introduced the guests in detail. Dr Nawaz Deobandi interacted with the students, shared his experiences in the field of education. Apart from being a celebrated poet Dr Nawaz Deobandi is tirelessly working in the area of education where he has established more than fifty schools for the underprivileged population in his area of western Uttar Pradesh especially in the district of Saharanpur. He has established several schools for girls which are serving the much-required area of our society.

Dr Nawaz Deobandi then recited his poetry for the audiences which were mesmerizing and ever memorable. Prof. Syed Mahmood Kazmi gave his presidential remarks and focused on the life and works of Dr Nawaz Deobandi. He appreciated the University of Hyderabad in general and the Department of Urdu in particular for organizing such a marvelous and memorable programme which gives directions to the academic life of the students particularly. The programme was well attended by the students and research scholars of other departments too.

The students and research scholars especially from the Department of Hindi participated in large numbers. Prof. Shyam Rao, the Head of the Department of Hindi was present throughout the programme. The coordinator of the programme was Prof Md. Zahidul Haque who could not attend the event due to some other academic engagements.

At the end of the programme, Mr Kafeel Ahmad delivered the vote of thanks to one and all, especially the guests who came from outside.
