In three years of my tenure as coordinator for Remedial Coaching: Spoken English and Grammar for SC, ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) and Minority Students in our university, the programme has been organized in six semesters like any other academic programme in the university. The just commenced one is the semester VII (August-November, 2018) with all fresh enrollment for both Basic and Advanced English, which are being handled separately by the two proficient scholars.
Enrollment process began one month before the commencement of classes. Posters were pasted at all public places on the campus, published on our University web with the help of PRO’s office advertising the admission criterion. Use of modern methods in teaching and salient features of the programme with its significance in the language pursuit for every average student were highlighted. A simple pre-entry English test was conducted on 4 th August, 2018 to gauge the level of English knowledge in every student aspiring for the programme. 71 students turned out to the test. With performance in the test as parameter, the admission of a student was decided for the course: Basic English/Advanced English. At the same time, students are given freedom to opt for the course at their choice. On the whole, the motto of the programme is to encourage students (with rural background) to speak and write correct English.
Material is prepared in tune with the syllabus designed by the experienced professors and it is made available for study. The students are assured of certificates at the end of the programme. Regular attendance of the students in the class and tests being conducted at every week end including the end semester exam will be taken into consideration for the issue of certificates.
