In a significant development for India’s higher education and deep-tech research landscapes, two of Hyderabad’s premier neighbouring academic institutions, the University of Hyderabad (UoH) – a Central University and an ‘Institute of Eminence’ – and the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H), entered into a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on May 21, 2026.
This strategic partnership is poised to deeply promote collaborations among the diverse academic units and specialized research groups of both institutions.
Under the provisions of the agreement, the MoU enables reciprocal access to specialized laboratories, high-performance computing (HPC) clusters, and library repositories between UoH and IIIT-H. By combining each institute’s unique core competence, sophisticated state-of-the-art facilities, and expertise in mutually exclusive yet closely interrelated fields, this tie-up will enhance the institutional synergy required to achieve common academic goals and meet crucial national priorities.
This collective effort is fully expected to significantly enhance joint research publications, protect intellectual property rights (IPR), foster joint events, and secure competitive joint extramural grants that actively lead to deep-tech innovations.
In terms of academic restructuring, the MoU enables active co-teaching, interdisciplinary research, and the joint supervision of Post-Graduate (PG, including MTech) and PhD scholars, fully operating within the established framework of the applicable AICTE and UGC regulations. Looking to the future, the MoU formally envisions offering collaborative and joint degrees in highly specialized areas such as VLSI and Semiconductor Technologies.
Ultimately, this comprehensive MoU enhances overall institutional synergy by encouraging close, bottom-up collaborations among interested research groups. The collaboration will produce highly trained, industry-ready manpower in different fields of national importance, notably including semiconductor science and technology.

The historic agreement was formally signed in the presence of Prof. J. Anuradha (Vice-Chancellor In-Charge, UoH), Prof. Sandeep K. Shukla (Director, IIIT-H), and senior academic and administrative functionaries of the two esteemed institutions.
To ensure the seamless implementation of this agreement, the following faculty members will serve as the official coordinators:
- For University of Hyderabad (UoH): Prof. S. V. S. Nageswara Rao and Dr. L. D. Varma Sangani from the Centre for Advanced Studies in Electronics Science and Technology (CASEST), School of Physics.
- For IIIT-Hyderabad (IIIT-H): Dr. Abhishek Srivastava and Dr. Zia Abbas from the Centre for VLSI and Embedded Systems Technology (CVEST).
