The School of Humanities organized a 3-day Academic Writing Workshop on 16th-18th Jan 2025. Made possible by funding from the IoE, the Workshop was directed at MA and PhD students in CALTS, English, CELS, Philosophy and CCL academic units of the school.

With Resource persons, Neerav Dwivedi and Sridhar Krishnan of the Centre for Writing and Communications, Ashoka University, the Workshop aimed to help students understand and fix common but also often ignored problems with their academic writing.

Inaugurated by the Dean, SH, Prof. MT Ansari, on January 16, 2025 the Workshop was organised around two cohorts: the PhD students and the MA students. The PhD students were trained to identify and outline Research Questions, create Literature Reviews, reference management, analytical writing, integrating ‘Theory’ into the writing, key aspects of Research Ethics and writing for publication.

The MA students received instructions in methods such as summarising, Literature Review, clear writing, paraphrasing and organizing/structuring.

A staggering number 215 of students attended the Workshop, and compared writing practices (and problems) across their disciplines.

The Office of the Dean, SH, ran the logistics for the event, and volunteers from various Departments helped the smooth running.
