The Research & Development Cell, in collaboration with the Internal Quality Assessment Cell, DST-Technology Enabled Centre, and the Institutional Innovation Council at the University of Hyderabad, organized a one-day seminar on “Fostering a Culture of Innovation: Best Practices for IP Management for Universities” on 22nd November 2024.

The seminar witnessed enthusiastic participation, with around 100 attendees comprising faculty members, research scholars, and students. The event featured distinguished speakers, including:

  • Dr. B.K. Sahu, Senior Regional Manager, NRDC-Government of India, an expert on intellectual property management, who provided insights into best practices for universities to protect and manage intellectual property effectively.
  • Dr. Dara Ajay, Head of the Technology Transfer Office, IP Management Cell, IIT Madras, who discussed practical challenges and opportunities in patent drafting.
  • Prof. Koteshwara Rao Naik B, from IIM Mumbai, who highlighted the role of collaborative research in driving impactful innovation.

The seminar was graced by the esteemed Vice Chancellor of the University of Hyderabad, Prof. B.J. Rao, who delivered a thought-provoking address connecting the profound relationship between knowledge and wealth creation. Prof. Rao emphasized that universities must act as catalysts in transforming knowledge into tangible outcomes that benefit society and the economy.

In his inaugural address, Prof. Samrat L. Sabat, Director, R&D Cell, highlighted the importance of intellectual property awareness and the need to build a robust ecosystem for innovation and entrepreneurship within universities. Additional motivational remarks were provided by Prof. Anand Kondapi, Director-IQAC; Prof. S. Rajagopal, Coordinator, DST-TEC; and Dr. Yogeswara Rao, Director and Advisor-ASPIRE, who inspired participants with their insights.

The event concluded with a vote of thanks, acknowledging the speakers, participants, and organizers for their contributions to the seminar’s success. The discussions and ideas exchanged during the seminar are expected to significantly contribute to the University’s vision of fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
