On August 7, 2026, the School of Life Sciences (SLS) at the University of Hyderabad (UoH) hosted nearly 60 final-year B.Sc. Biochemistry students from St. Francis College for Women, Hyderabad (a DBT-Star College), for an academic field trip focused on “Exploring Science Beyond the Classroom.”
Key Highlights of the Visit
  • Departmental Orientation: Dr. Rakesh G. briefed the visiting cohort on the School’s interdisciplinary research landscape, academic programs, and state-of-the-art facilities.
  • Central Infrastructure Tour: Monica Kannan guided the students through the central instrumentation facilities, demonstrating advanced platforms used in modern life sciences research.
  • Core Technique Demonstrations: Students explored real-world applications of Genomics (PCR & qPCR), Proteomics (Mass Spectrometry), Cell Culture, Ultracentrifugation, and high-resolution Microscopy.
Exploring Advanced Research Frontiers
During the tour, students visited specialized laboratories across the faculty to observe active research in critical biological domains:
  • Cancer biology and lipid metabolism
  • Mitochondrial biology and lysosome dynamics
  • Parasitology and neuron metabolism
  • Nanotechnology in biochemical applications
Bridging Academics and Research Careers
The visit provided the undergraduate cohort with direct exposure to contemporary molecular techniques and state-of-the-art research environments. By connecting classroom concepts with active scientific discovery, the initiative offered valuable inspiration for students considering higher studies and research careers in biochemistry and biotechnology.
