Biofest – 2013 was organized by the Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics. This event was inaugurated by Prof. Haribabu, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, UOH Prof. R.P. Sharma, Dean, School of Life Sciences and Prof. Prakash Babu, Head, Department of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics.
Prof. Haribabu in his inaugural speech emphasized the role of Biotechnology and Bioinformatics in the health related research to alleviate human suffering. He also indicated that there is a need for the research which has social relevance and ethical values. Prof. Sharma said that every inventory has small beginning initially, hence advised students to take up challenging research. Prof. Prakash Babu explained about the event and said the Department of Biotechnology & Bioinformatics has been actively engaged in bringing together Biotech and Pharma companies with the University in an effort to work together. This event was sponsored by the UPE program of the University of Hyderabad.
This event was organized to enlighten the Students of Biotechnology, Bioinformatics and Systems Biology. The Department organized one day symposium and few lectures by the Pharma, Biotech and Software personnel to explain the students on the career opportunities. Dr. C. Nirmala Raju, Development, Dr. Reddys delivered a talk on the Clinical trials and role of pharma Industries in human health and opportunities. Dr. Raju KVS, Biologics Development Center, Dr. Reddys explained how preclinical toxicity studies are conducted and career opportunities. Dr. Ramakrishna, TCS explained Bioinformatics as tool to understand drug and receptor interaction. After the lectures, there was a panel discussion wherein all the speakers interacted with the students and explained various opportunities in the pharm and software industry. Students presented project work done during one semester and the experts from the Computer science, School of Chemistry (UoH), CDFD and Dr. C.R. Rao institute evaluated and extended advises to the student’s.
